Working from timeless themes rooted in the historical experience, David Luhrrsen, co-founder of the Shepherd Express, Wisconsin’s largest and longest running alternative newspaper, articulates a vision of reality that probes our human condition. His expertise encompasses manuscript doctoring, copy-editing and ghost writing.

Emerging as a critic during the whirlwind birth of punk rock in the 1970s, he has added knowledge and scope and reveals the substance of popular culture in film, books and music. A critic is not necessarily negative but as teacher needs to be analytical.

Tuned to the ways ideas shape reality and how the past shapes the present, the importance of ideas and past events form a recurring theme in his books, articles and talks. He is educated in cultural and intellectual history.

On subjects ranging from the state of the media to the origins of civilization, he has taught courses and given lessons at Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Area Technical College, Marquette University, Beloit College and elsewhere.
